What is Art Market?
Art Market serves as a marketplace
for local artists who have a passion to share their talents
with the community. It was first held in May,1994, offering
the Salt Lake community access to affordable arts and crafts
outside of the state and regional arts festival venues.
Each Art Market the best and most creative
local artisans are invited to showcase their unique, funky,
whimsical, hard-to-find, and almost always hand-made merchandise
in a seasonally themed event. Art Market began as a once
yearly event run out of Nanette's home, but it has grown
up into four events during the year, all held at the Sugarhouse
Garden Center. Each of the four shows--Valentines Market
(February), Mother's Day Market (May), Harvest Market (October),
and Holiday Market (December) -- are stocked with pieces
that reflect the show's theme.
The one-of-a-kind, hand-made Arts and
Crafts include: jewelry, children's furniture, photography,
candles, paintings, stationery, frames, pillows, holiday
décor, clothing, handbags, hats, aromatiques, stitchery,
stained glass, ornamental iron, pottery, baked goods and
other unique creations.
Who operates Art Market?
Utah native Nanette Banks Amis modeled
Art Market after the famed Pike Place Market in Seattle,
minus the fish throwing and monger odor. Nanette networks
through the Utah artist community in search of new vendors
who share her passion for unique, hand-made arts and crafts.
Nanette enjoys reading fiction, skiing,
hiking, sewing, knitting, cooking, hosting parties, biking,
and collecting dishes and handbags. She lives in Salt Lake
City with her husband Jeff, children Grace, Isabel, Davis,
and Ruby Sue, and two velociraptor-cat hybrids Frida and
Picasso.
Nanette, Grace, and Isabel sell their
own hand-made art including: baby boxes, doll beds, children's
furniture, hand-knitted scarves, headbands, nativity costumes,
and Halloween witch capes.
